HOW IT WORKS
How it works

Your dormitory is assigned
The School assigns dormitories and rooms, taking nationality and other factors into account. If you would like a particular dormitory or room type, you can apply to the School when your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is issued. We cannot always meet every request.

Pay before you come, settle after
You pay the first year's rent (12 months) and the management fee before you come, together with your first-year tuition. The rent you pay at this stage is the same amount for every dormitory. After you arrive, it is recalculated with the actual rent of your room: if you paid too much, we refund the difference in cash; if you paid too little, you pay the rest in cash.

Move in on the day you arrive
If you come on the flight the School tells you, a teacher meets you at Kansai Airport and takes you to your dormitory. Otherwise, come to the School and collect your key there.

Paid once before moving in, for the first year. Not refundable on moving out.

Per person per month. The first year is paid before you come and settled with your actual room's rent after you arrive.

Free in every dormitory.
- All dormitories are owned and managed by the School, so you can come straight to the School with any problem, not a property company.
- Dormitory rules (keys, rubbish sorting and more) and repair requests are in the “Dormitory guide” on the student portal, in Japanese, English, Chinese, Nepali and Burmese.
- On move-in day, you check the room and its equipment together with a staff member.
- So that new students can settle into life in Japan quickly, all students live in a JCL dormitory in their first year in principle. For the settlement of fees when moving out early, please see the Letter of Consent.
- If special circumstances require you to live outside the dormitories from the first year, please tell us at the interview.
- Every unit has its own kitchen, bathroom and toilet, and is furnished with beds, storage, a desk and chair, curtains, a vacuum cleaner, microwave, rice cooker, electric kettle, gas or IH hob, refrigerator and LCD television.
- New students receive, free of charge, a pillow and bedding (3-piece set), a frying pan, tableware (bowls, cups, chopsticks, spoons, etc.) and a full set of bathroom and kitchen cleaning supplies.
