What accreditation means

Under the Japanese Language Institution Accreditation Act, which took effect in April 2024, the national government reviews and accredits the quality of Japanese language education.

To be accredited, an institution must meet statutory standards covering its curriculum, teaching staff, academic support, student welfare and public disclosure. Accredited institutions are listed on the MEXT portal, where anyone can check their course content, fees and staffing.
