Results of the anonymous survey taken by every class each semester. 96.5% responded positively to “Overall, my studies this semester were worthwhile.”
At the end of every semester, JCL runs an anonymous teaching evaluation survey covering every class and every teacher. The results for the second semester of the 2026 academic year are now published.
| Question | Positive | Responses |
|---|---|---|
| “Overall, my studies this semester were worthwhile.” | 96.5% | 546 |
| “My teacher's lessons were easy to follow.” | 96.7% | 2,114 ratings |
| “The guidance on applying to universities was thorough.” (university-track classes) | 96.1% | 337 ratings |
“Positive” is the share who chose “agree” or “somewhat agree” out of the four options. Questions about teachers are answered once per teacher, so their totals are counts of ratings rather than of students.
Results are shared with homeroom and subject teachers and used in planning the next semester's lessons. Every free-text comment is read as well, not only the multiple-choice answers; comments written in languages other than Japanese are all translated and reviewed.
Only school-wide totals are published. Results for individual teachers and classes are used internally to improve teaching.
JCL becomes an accredited Japanese language institution on 1 October 2026. The self-inspection and evaluation required by the Accreditation Act will be carried out for the first time around May–June 2027, and those results will be published separately.
This teaching evaluation survey predates that requirement and has been run every semester as the school's own way of checking teaching quality against its students' assessment.
Period September 2026 · Population all enrolled students · Responses 546, anonymous · Languages offered Japanese, Chinese, English, Nepali or Burmese · Scale four points (agree / somewhat agree / somewhat disagree / disagree); “%” is the sum of the top two · Conducted by JCL Foreign Language School, as part of its self-inspection and evaluation
Figures are rounded and may not add up to 100%.
The breakdown for each question and the full description of how the survey is run are on the following page.
